MN Firefighter Completes Goal to Pose in Front of Every Station in the State

April 30, 2024
It took Hubie Widmer 10 years to reach his goal of visiting, and taking a photo in front of, all 775 fire stations in the state.

Hubie Widmer is a 71-year-old retired Carver County sheriff’s lieutenant, who has been with the Watertown Fire Department for nearly 43 years.

Hubie is set to retire in May, but he had one last goal he wanted to accomplish before walking away.

“I said, ‘You know, I want to get my picture taken in front of every fire department in the state,’” Hubie told KARE-11.

In March, after a 10-year journey traveling the state with his wife Denice snapping photos, Widmer accomplished his goal.

“We’ve basically been to every town in the state of Minnesota.” Hubie says.

That includes the fire department in Minnesota’s Northwest Angle, which required the Widmers to drive through several miles of Canada to access.

MSP Airport’s fire station #1 was the last one on the list.

Acting Airport Fire Chief Greg Fuller asked Widmer if all the stations in Wisconsin were next on his list.

“Nope,” Widmer replied with a laugh.
