A veteran firefighter has taken the helm at Detroit Fire Department.
David Nelson was named fire chief on Friday, the department announced on Facebook.
Nelson has served with Detroit Fire Department for 33 years.
He is replacing Chief Percy Allen III, who announced his retirement last week.
Allen served with the department for 35 years, starting April 24, 1989. He wrote in an announcement, he plans to "enjoy being home, enjoy doing some traveling and...work on my golf," WXYZ reported.
