CAL FIRE to Hold Preparedness Exercise

Nearly 50 fire crews from Northern California will be evaluated on safety performance, physical conditioning, handline construction and firefighting knowledge.

Apr. 30—TEHAMA COUNTY — Fire crews from throughout Northern California will be participating in the annual Crew Preparedness Exercise from May 6 through May 10 in preparation for this fire year in the Paynes Creek area.

This is the 39th annual Ishi Crew preparedness exercise and it will provide an opportunity for 48 fire crews from Northern California to be evaluated on safety performance, physical conditioning, handline construction and firefighting knowledge, according to CAL FIRE.

Fire crews are scheduled to hike approximately 3.1 miles into the incident site, construct 300' of fire line in heavy brush and deploy fire shelters under simulated emergency conditions.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection ( CAL FIRE), in conjunction with the

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) operates 30 conservation camps throughout California.

CAL FIRE, in conjunction with the California Conservation Corps (CCC) operates fire crews with Conservation Corps members. Additionally, CAL FIRE uses firefighter hand crews and California National Guard hand crews in some CAL FIRE Units.

This partnership of state agencies, inmates, firefighters, Corps members, and National Guard personnel provides a force of trained firefighters who are prepared for all types of emergency incident mitigation and resource conservation.

Ishi Conservation Camp is located at 30502 Plum Creek Road in Paynes Creek.
