Firefighters with the Avondale Fire Department have a new KME Ridgerunner, multipurpose pumper now in service.
The unit, sold by W.W. Williams, KME's Arizona dealer, is designed to bring the performance of a full pumper into the wildland urban interface zone so departments no longer have to choose between water and mobility.
The apparatus brings large pumping capacity and a large water tank (up to 1,000-gallons), along with pump and roll capabilities, to the scene.
The unit has a tight wheelbase while meeting all the National Fire Protection Association's 1901 pumper requirements, according to the maker.
specifically, the new Ridgerunner will be used as a frontline engine and will be used at the Phoenix International Raceway. It will also be deployed as a Type 3 engine for wild land assignments, creating revenue for the city and will be able to serve as a reserve unit if needed.
It can carry up to five personnel, all necessary structural firefighting equipment, as well as wild land equipment.
Other equipment includes a foam system, a remote-operated front bumper turret and two booster reels.
