Pickup Truck Concept
FORD MOTOR CO. has unveiled the Ford Atlas Concept to showcase the design, capability, fuel efficiency and smart technologies of future pickup trucks. Designers enhanced truck functionality, while creating advanced features. For example, multiple tie-down points are integrated within the cargo-box walls and load floor, along with 110-volt electrical outlets in the cargo box to charge power tools. It features an EcoBoost power train with Auto Start-Stop engine shutoff technology. Auto Start-Stop shuts off the engine when stopped in traffic to save fuel and suspends the feature when the truck is towing.

Right-Angle Flashlight
BRIGHT STAR LIGHTING PRODUCTS has introduced the New Right Angle LED flashlight with a dual-power option. Whether powered by alkaline batteries or a proprietary lithium-ion rechargeable cell, output is 170 lumens (light output) with 35,000 candelas (peak beam intensity). Advantages of lithium-ion are a significant reduction in weight and improved operational reliability compared to nickel-cadmium batteries. Features include long run times, with rapid charge intervals, as well as a low-profile reflector/optical design that offers a piercing beam with the ability to cut through the heaviest smoke.

LED Scene Light
R•O•M CORP. has introduced the Sentinel LED scene light that illuminates over 30,000 square feet. The light meets the extreme conditions of emergency vehicle operators by meeting or exceeding military standards for shock, vibration and salt. During normal operation, the light is routinely submerged in three feet of water for 30 minutes to meet criteria for IP67. (A video of quality tests can be viewed at www.emergencyscenelighting.com.) Shipping as a 12VDC or 120/240VAC fixture, the light can be built as a pole, brow, surface or semi-recessed mount.

ALLISON TRANSMISSION has made 5th Generation electronic controls available to all OEM customers. The electronic controls have been designed to match the new generation of global vehicle electrical-electronic architectures and for easy integration during vehicle assembly. The electronic controls are flexible, providing optimal shift strategies for industry-leading productivity and efficiency, while still addressing varying OEM and operator requirements. They feature enhanced programming and a new bump lever selector design. Embedded in the control module is a new inclinometer that enhances vehicle productivity and efficiency in stop-start operations.

Firefighter Trainer
BULLEX has released the FlashFire Training System, which creates scaled backdrafts, flashovers and gas explosions. Instructors can show trainees the conditions that lead to these dangerous situations, demonstrate tactics to reduce risk and show what can happen in a worst-case scenario. The system is a scaled version of a residential structure with a door, roof vents and interior props. Using a handheld controller, instructors can choose from pre-programmed scenarios or manually introduce smoke, fuel and ignition sources, and control the amount of air flow and ventilation to create conditions found at a fire scene.

Wildland Fire Protection
TETRAKO has introduced the TetraKO Wildfire Protection System, a rugged and easy-to-use delivery system for wildland firefighting and structural protection. The comprehensive and integrated system includes the TetraKO TurboMixer, TetraKO TurboSkid and TetraKO next-generation water enhancer powder concentrate. The TurboMixer unit facilitates large batch mixing of TetraKO powder concentrate with water for rapid off-loading to any fire apparatus. The TurboSkid Unit, designed for placement on the flatbed of a pickup truck or on a trailer, is equipped with a 200-gallon tank and an 18-hp Waterous pump.
