The Social Circle Fire Department apparatus left the road and the driver over corrected, causing the apparatus to roll over. One of the firefighters was seriously hurt.

Jan. 19--Two City of Social Circle firefighters were sent to the hospital after their firetruck overturned on its way to a call Thursday, authorities said.

A little before 12:30 p.m., a City of Social Circle firetruck overturned and wrecked into an embankment off Hawkins Academy Road, Georgia State Patrol said in a news release. The truck was responding to a structure fire call and had its lights and siren activated.

The truck was making a left turn when the passenger side tires left the right side of the road, the release said. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle traveled across the roadway and down the embankment.

The cab of the firetruck suffered a "total collapse," and both firefighters inside were taken a local hospital to be treated for injuries, the release said. The extent of their injuries was not provided.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office also responded to the incident, and the road between Social Circle Fairplay Road and Knox Chapel Road was shut down for the investigation, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post.

No other details have been released. An investigation is ongoing.
