The Atlantic Beach Fire Department received more than $22,000 in new equipment—including a set of radios and an automated CPR device—from a local nonprofit group.

A seaside fire department in North Carolina received more than $22,000 in new gear and equipment from a local nonprofit group as beach season ramps up for the summer.

The Atlantic Beach King Mackerel Saltwater Slam Tournament donated a four-wheel ATV, five wireless beach radios and an AutoPulse CPR device to the Atlantic Beach Fire Department. The organization presented the new equipment to firefighters Thursday.

"Everybody at times has different budget restrictions, and it’s great that (the donations) can come as a supplement to the Town of Atlantic Beach to help us get the ocean rescue lifeguards aspect of things more in line," Deputy Chief Casey Arthur told WNCT-TV.

Arthur said the ATV and radios will help crews during beach emergencies and water rescues. The AutoPulse, though, can be used for medical calls around the town.

"That’s a CPR device that provides compressions to a patient without us being hands-on so it frees us up to do other life-saving measures," he told WNCT.

Proceeds from the nonprofit group's 2018 fishing tournament helped pay for the donations, an online post by the organization stated.
