Two firefighter-paramedics were among four people injured when a Mashpee ambulance rolled onto its side in a three-vehicle crash Friday.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Mashpee ambulance bringing a patient to Falmouth Hospital rolled onto its side on Route 151 after being involved in a three-vehicle crash late Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 5:33 p.m., according to a statement from the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department.

The ambulance was cut off by a car on Route 151 near Ranch Road, Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne said.

According to a statement from the Police Department, the ambulance was headed west on the highway with its emergency lights on. Multiple vehicles in both directions pulled to the shoulder of the road to let the ambulance pass. A Toyota Camry crossed the centerline and struck the ambulance head-on, the statement says.

The impact caused the ambulance to veer into the eastbound lane, where it hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on before coming to rest on its driver's side, the statement says.

Four people were taken to Falmouth Hospital, including the two firefighter-paramedics and patient in the ambulance. The driver of another vehicle that did not cause the crash also was transported, Dunne said.

The injuries sustained in the crash were not life-threatening, Falmouth police said in a statement.

The driver and passenger in the Camry were not injured, Dunne said.

That driver is being charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, impeding operation, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and marked lanes violation, Dunne said.

Ambulances from the Bourne, Sandwich, Cotuit and Centerville-Osterville-Marston Mills Fire departments assisted at the scene, fire officials said.

Route 151 remained closed between Boxberry Hill Road and Ranch Road as of 8 p.m. Friday while Falmouth police and members of Barnstable County Sheriff's Office worked on accident reconstruction, Dunne said. The road was expected to remain closed until 9 p.m., he said.
