The Endicott, NY, Fire Department has taken delivery of a new pumper truck from Toyne that features a Hale QMAX pump and 800-gallon water tank.

ENDICOTT, NY (April 2021) – In the Village of Endicott, a vibrant community in southern New York, the local fire department received a fully customized pumper built by Toyne, Inc., in Breda, Iowa. This is Endicott Fire Department's first apparatus from Toyne and takes up the mantle of Engine 25-11 that has been in service since 1988. With the addition of the new apparatus, the department can bolster its firefighting and emergency response capabilities.

Established in 1912, the Endicott Fire Department has served its community for over a century. Today, the department staffs 21 paid professional firefighters on call 24/7. Responding to fires, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies, the department continually looks to provide the highest quality services possible. Their Toyne Tailored Apparatus will help them achieve that goal.

The first official call that the Toyne Pumper responded to was one of remembrance: participating in a parade to honor a local community member who was a dear friend of the area's first responders and who had succumbed to COVID-19. Now, back at the station, the new Engine 25-11 stands by, ready to take other calls in the community.

"It has been a pleasure to work with these dedicated firefighters," said Mike Schwabe, President of Toyne, Inc. "This pumper is ready for action and built to serve the Endicott Fire Department for years to come."

EFD's Toyne Pumper is mounted on a four-door Freightliner SD114 chassis. Ensuring a speedy response time, a 450-horsepower Detroit DD13 engine and an Allison 4,000 EVS transmission were selected for the powertrain.

The pumper body was stall-built and constructed with bolted painted stainless steel. Designs called for a wide range of different equipment storage options, including painted stainless steel swing-out doors, hydraulic ladder rack, upper body coffin compartments, and space for up to 12 SCBA bottles in the wheel wells. Toyne also installed custom slide-out shelving and tools boards.

This apparatus is ready to respond with its 800-gallon UPF tank, 1,500 gallon-per-minute Hale Qmax pump, and Foam Pro 1600 Class-A foam system. Monitoring these key hardware pieces is an ICI SL Plus tank gauge and Fire Research Pump Boss pressure governor.

Getting water where it needs to go, the pumper's left side has pipping for two 2.5-inch discharges, a 2.5-inch intake, and a master intake. There is piping for a 2.5-inch discharge, 4-inch discharge, and a master intake on the opposite side. An additional 1.75-inch discharge point was fitted to the front bumper. Toyne also pre-piped the apparatus for a monitor.

Lighting the way to an emergency is an array of emergency lights such as a 46-inch FireTech HiViz LED brow light and Whelen warning lights. Once at the scene, the apparatus can illuminate the surrounding area with its SPA 260-Q20/Q70 scene lights. Storage compartments are also lit up with ILI LED strips.

Authorized Toyne Dealer, J.B.P. Fire Sales and Service, sold the pumper to the Endicott Fire Department. From the dealer's location in Liverpool, New York, they serve fire departments throughout the western region of New York.
