CAL FIRE Firefighters Hurt in Rollover Crash

The three firefighters were taken to the hospital Thursday after their fire apparatus left the road and landed in an embankment in Bonsall.

Three CAL Fire firefighters were hurt in a rollover accident Thursday in Bonsall while possibly responding to a call in wet and rainy conditions.

The firefighters were able to climb out the fire apparatus and suffered only minor injuries from the single-vehicle crash, KNSD-TV reports. They were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Authorities said the accident happened just after 6 a.m. Thursday when the apparatus left Old Highway 395 in Bonsall and rolled into an embankment 20 feet away, according to KNSD. The firefighters had been tasked with responding to rain-related incidents in the Deer Spring area, but it's not known for certain yet if they were on a call at the time of the crash.

California Highway Patrol investigators are trying to determine what cause the apparatus to veer off the road. Heavy rain had fallen in the area the night before the accident, and a light rain was happening at the time of the crash, KNSD reports.

"Anytime we have firefighters that are involved in an incident, it's concerning, not only at a personal level but at a professional," CAL Fire spokesman Issac Sanchez told the TV station. "We want to learn what happened here, so we can improve our operations."
