A stretch of Interstate 280 was shut down after a dump truck barreled into an accident investigation scene, hitting two New Jersey state troopers out of their cruisers.

A stretch of New Jersey interstate was shut down Tuesday morning from a chain reaction accident that involved state troopers, a fire apparatus and other emergency vehicles.

The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. when a dump truck drove into an accident investigation scene near Exit 9 along Interstate 280 in West Orange, the New Jersey State Police said. Two state troopers were hit outside their cruisers by the truck, as well as multiple pedestrians, WLNY-TV reports.

Along with the troopers and pedestrians, the truck also struck a fire apparatus and an ambulance. A fire then broke out at the scene from the crash, according to WLNY.

The troopers were taken to local hospitals, but the nature and severity of their injuries was not released. The pedestrians were not seriously hurt, and the dump truck remained on the scene following the accident, state police said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, the TV station added.
