Upon seeing his injured firefighters, Green Valley Lt. Justin Adkins said: "It rips your heart out."

Three Green Valley firefighters injured in a fire truck wreck Wednesday remain hospitalized.

Four firefighters were aboard the engine when the driver lost control of the rig. After it ran off the road, he overcorrected which sent it across the road. Its cab stopped at a creek,  WSAZ reported.

One firefighter was flown to a trauma center while others were transported by ambulance. All suffered fractures and lacerations.

Another firefighter suffered minor injuries in the wreck that occurred while they were headed to a brush fire.

Green Valley Fire Lt. Justin Adkins described firefighters know what to do. But when it's one of your own, it hits hard.

"It rips your heart out," he described his feelings as he drove up to see his friends injured.

He added that firefighters quickly aided their colleagues.

All the equipment on the rig is being tested to make sure it operates correctly.
