ALCOVA, Wyo. (AP) -- Firefighters battled a wildfire in a remote area just east of Pathfinder Reservoir in central Wyoming Wednesday.

The Pyramid Peak fire, located about 2 miles east of the reservoir and about 35 miles southwest of Casper, had burned about 221 acres of old growth ponderosa pine and juniper, according to Mary Wilson, spokeswoman with the Bureau of Land Management.

About 40 homes in a rural subdivision were being protected by Carbon County firefighters. A couple of the homes were within a half-mile of the fire, according to BLM fire management officer Larry Trapp.

``We're starting to worry a little bit about those,'' he said.

Wilson said firefighters were employing two helicopters, two fire engines and crews on the ground. The fire was moving little; although the temperature climbed into the 90s Wednesday, there was little wind.

Elsewhere, the 350-acre West Fork Creek fire located about 30 miles south of Wright in northeast Wyoming had been contained. It was started by lightning Saturday and burned timber and grass.
