Accountability: Positions In The System

A safety officer must move around the structure, keeping an eye on the fire’s behavior as well as the structure itself.Accountability is just part of the command structure needed to effectively run an incident.The first thing every incident needs is an Incident Commander or IC. There are many responsibilities that go along with being an Incident Commander and the IC must trust his officers to do their jobs.

Once command has been established, and a location has been determined for the command post, the IC must stay at the command post. He should not be roaming around the fire scene, in fighting the fire, up on an aerial, or anywhere other than at command.
