Heavier Steel Trusses
After a third of a century of preaching "beware the truss",
I am not so sure that the hazard of large steel trusses or trusses cantilevered out from buildings to support balconies or overhangs, is well recognized.
A West Coast firefighter died when the failure of the interior end of a truss cantilevered out to support an overhang, collapsed, dropping the overhang on him. Video of the fire shows him on a balcony directing a small line into an inferno.
