A Budd Lake couple escaped from a fast-moving house fire yesterday morning but not before one of the owners suffered serious burns to his head and neck while trying to rescue their dog, authorities said.

Eric Prince, 46, remains in critical but stable condition in the burn unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, a hospital spokeswoman said. His wife, Evelyn, 45, is in stable condition in the burn step-down unit.

Evelyn Prince smashed a window from the outside of the house, cutting her hands and arms, but the dog named "Coco" did not make it out, authorities said.
