“The fight against cancer is deeply personal to the FDNY because so many members of this Department have lost their lives to this terrible disease,” said Cassano. “Thanks to this generous grant by the V Foundation, the doctors and researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the National Cancer Institute will have crucial funding for their important research in the hope of discovering earlier detection of blood-related cancers and increasing survival rates, not only for our members, but for everyone.”
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator, who died of cancer later that year.
“In [the past] 20 years, The V Foundation has funded more than 500 leading-edge cancer research projects, but this one is especially distinct due to its focus on the FDNY,” said Nick Valvano, President Emeritus of The V Foundation and brother of the late coach. “The success of this project will not only benefit all of society, but it will also support research that will benefit those who do so much for others.”
Firehouse to Partner with Ohio Fire & EMS Expo
Firehouse has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ohio Fire & EMS Expo, which allows the Expo to leverage the marketing reach and content of Firehouse across all of its platforms and provides Firehouse with a greater event presence in the nation’s heartland, via launch, acquisition or partnership.
“We have been working with Firehouse for the past two years and are very excited by their strengthening commitment to support us, helping us to realize the full potential for our conference within the state of Ohio and beyond,” said Mark Zambito, co-founder and director of operations for the Ohio Fire & EMS Expo.
Chris Craig, co-founder and exhibit hall coordinator noted that “this year’s Expo will continue to grow with increased regional and national awareness through the Firehouse brand to bring more attendees and an expanded exhibit hall to the event to deliver an enhanced experience for exhibitors and attendees, alike.”
“We are committed to bringing the Firehouse brand of events to the fire service on a local, state and regional level. We feel that working with Mark and the Ohio Fire & EMS Expo team is a strategic partnership that brings the strength of our combined organizations to the state of Ohio and beyond,” said Ed Nichols, vice president of Firehouse Events. “We are excited to welcome Mark and his team to the family.”
The 2013 Ohio Fire & EMS Expo (ohiofireexpo.com) will take place September 26-27, 2013, at the Greater Columbus Ohio Convention Center.
