GLOBE, DUPONT PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES and the NATIONAL VOLUNTEER FIRE COUNCIL (NVFC) have announced two more recipients in the 2014 Globe Gear Giveaway. The Jamestown, MO, Rural Fire Protection District and the Strong, ME, Fire Department will each receive four sets of new Globe turnout gear.

For the third year, Globe, DuPont and the NVFC have partnered to assist fire departments obtain much-needed gear to enhance the safety and efficiency of their firefighters. Since the program began in 2012, 223 sets of gear have been awarded to volunteer departments that have demonstrated significant need. Additional awards are being made throughout 2014.
To further support the volunteer fire service, Globe has also introduced a discount program for members of the NVFC. Through this program, NVFC members receive a discount off of the new CLASSIX SE.

“We thank Globe for taking this extra step to help volunteer firefighters afford new turnout gear,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “So many departments are in need, and the Globe Gear Giveaway Program along with the NVFC discount program will enable more volunteer firefighters to obtain state-of-the-art gear so they are properly protected when the next call comes.”

Gear awards are being made each month through December. SPARTAN ERV (Emergency Response Vehicles) has been awarded an order for 20 units by the Sao Paulo (Brazil) Fire Department. This order further accentuates Spartan ERV’s growth in South America, as more than 150 units have been delivered to the region since January 2011. Production for the order will begin immediately, with a scheduled completion date within the next year.

“Sao Paulo, Brazil is one of the largest cities in the world with nearly 21 million citizens in the metropolitan area,” said Bill Doebler, vice president of sales and marketing, Spartan ERV. “Spartan ERV is recognized for building some of the safest, most durable fire apparatus in the market as evidenced by Sao Paulo’s order. This contract is also another step in Spartan ERV’s continued global growth. We value their confidence in our apparatus to protect the people of Sao Paulo.”

All 20 units will be Spartan ERV custom pumpers built on Spartan Metro Star chassis featuring the Spartan Chassis Advanced Protection System (APS) and equipped with Euro V emission standard engines and Allison transmissions. Each unit will feature Hale 1,250-gpm pumps with compressed air foam systems and 1,250-gallon water tanks.
In addition to Peru, Spartan ERV has since expanded into Brazil, Chile and Venezuela.

HALE PRODUCTS has named Jon Kostyzak as the company’s West Coast regional sales manager, based in Poway, CA. He is responsible for the company’s growth initiatives and providing support for customers in the West Coast fire and rescue market. His territory includes California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Hawaii.

“We are excited to add Mr. Kostyzak to the team,” Bruce Lear, vice president of Global Sales, said. “We plan to leverage Jon’s extensive sales experiences within the fire and rescue markets to further expand our business in the western market.”


SMEAL FIRE APPARATUS has signed an agreement with DANKO EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT to sell and market Danko’s entire line of fire apparatus, skid units and ultra-high and high-pressure foam systems. Under this agreement, Smeal is responsible for North American marketing, sales and service. Smeal’s entire dealer network is now the exclusive distribution arm for Danko products. In addition, Danko continues as a full-line Smeal dealer in Nebraska, Kansas, southern South Dakota and western and central Iowa.

“We have always had an excellent working relationship with our long-time friends and neighbors at Danko Emergency Equipment,” Smeal President Mark Huber said. “This expanded relationship offers both companies unique opportunities. It allows Smeal and our dealers to offer in-demand products to our customers and meet more of their needs. And, for Danko, it allows them to leverage the strength of Smeal’s newly expanded North American distribution network, and provide enhanced local service.”

Danko products include tankers/tenders, mini-pumpers, quick attacks, light/medium rescues, wildland flatbeds with skids, airport rapid intervention vehicles, industrial fire and rescue vehicles, ultra-high and high-pressure fire suppression pump systems.

Also, Smeal announced that HOOSIER FIRE EQUIPMENT is its new authorized sales and service dealer for Smeal and Ladder Tower fire apparatus and aerials for Indiana. Hoosier Fire already represents Smeal-owned US Tanker throughout the state.
