Recent fires from around the country.

Susquehanna Township, PA, Dec. 26, 2016—Rescue Fire Company crews arrived to smoke showing from a large, single-family house, with fire quickly spreading to the upper floors. Additional companies, including tankers, were summoned to the scene, as the area had no hydrants. Approximately 50 firefighters battled the fire for over an hour. No injuries were reported.

North Bergen, NJ, Dec. 21, 2016—North Hudson Regional Fire Department members prepare to move Ladder 1’s apparatus away from flames venting out of a furniture store. The rig suffered radiant heat damage along its entire officer’s side. Squad 1's apparatus, on the D side, also suffered radiant heat damage.  The fire went to 5 alarms in 40 minutes.

Holyoke, MA, Jan. 1, 2017—Crews responded to a fast-moving fire in a fully occupied, five-story apartment building. Firefighters made multiple rescues, including several via aerial ladder. After an initial interior attack on the fire, mainly to provide firefighters a chance to search the structure, crews were pulled out the building and switched to a surround-and-drown defensive attack as the fire broke through the roof on the A/B corner of the building and took possession of the fifth floor and cockloft.

Bradford Township, PA, Dec. 19, 2016—Bradford Township Volunteer firefighters use 1¾-inch attack line to extinguish a fire in a 1998 Buick. There were no injuries. It was determined that a mechanical issue caused the fire.

Burrillville, RI, Jan. 10, 2017—First-due fire companies arrived to find heavy fire showing through the roofline of a raised ranch dwelling. Firefighters stretched an attack line on the Charlie side of a raised ranch dwelling and later took a defensive posture. A second alarm was requested for staffing and tankers. Tankers were needed to shuttle water to the scene, as this section of town was not supplied by the town water supply. The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes.

New Haven, CT, Dec. 26, 2016—At approximately 1:30 p.m., the New Haven Fire Department was dispatched to a condominium fire. It is reported that the fire might have started in a second floor unit of the three-story, wood-frame complex. The fire quickly escalated to three alarms and spread to 16 units. West Haven responded to the scene as mutual aid, and companies from Hamden provided station coverage throughout the city.

Scarsdale, NY, Dec. 4, 2016—More than 50 firefighters from seven departments responded to a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews were faced with heavy fire and serious hoarding conditions inside the home, hampering suppression and rescue efforts. It took several hours to knock down the heaviest fire and several more hours to extinguish.
