Heart attack vs Cardiac Arrest

<?xml:namespace prefix = dme />

Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack. Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating. A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is blocked. A heart attack may cause cardiac arrest.
Less than 1/3 of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR. Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.

I am not only a career Firefighter/Paramedic but also an American Heart Association BLS instructor.  I teach CPR, AED and First Aid to healthcare professionals as well as the general public.  If you live in the Dallas / FT Worth metroplex and need a professional CPR instructor you can trust, please give me a call today and set up a class.

Thanks and stay safe out there,
