After learning the basics of fire safety some years ago and dedicating my life to helping save lives, I sat down to put my future goals as an educator onto paper. Two of those goals were to share fire prevention in a fun and educationally sound way and to reach as many people as possible with the fire safety message.
Why set goals? Goals can help keep you focused on what you want to achieve. As you reach a milestone, you will find that your self-confidence increases! Rather than starting many different projects and having the potential of failing to accomplish any of them, goals can direct you to take specific moves that will get you closer to achieving the result you desire.The fire safety dogs and I are embarked on a new journey, sharing the fire safety message via the web in 2008. Sharing the fire safety message via the web was our goal at the time, but at the time, we had no idea how successful this journey would be or where it would take us!
Why spend the time to promote safety over the web you may ask? The web provides the perfect platform to allow you the opportunity to reach many people not only your community, but those outside your community as well. Sparkles, for example, has more friends on Facebook than I do with friends from over 18 countries by last count! Sparkles' Facebook page, now with 4,175 friends (and Siren's Facebook page), provide a wonderful way to share safety tips.
As I sit her typing this blog post, I am happy to report that the fire safety dogs and I now have our own safety studio, courtesy of a generous sponsor, one who believes in helping share the fire safety message. I hope that you will be able to follow our web streams as we share fire safety live on the web twice a month. By watching our live streams, you may be able to gain a few tips that you can use yourself or maybe even find a section of the recorded version that you might be able to use in your programming.
Wanted to include a picture of Sparkles’ Clubhouse, which is currently under construction. The dogs and I can’t wait to stream live from the web for the first time on June 7th! Later this summer, we hope to stream segments for fire safety educators in which we will provide tips for their programs, so stay tuned!
In 2008, a safety studio was our goal and we are now closer to achieving that goal. Yes, it has been three years, but it has well been worth the wait! We look forward to the future with our clubhouse and setting more goals. Set your goals today if you haven't all ready and share them with us. We would love to hear them!
