Bridgeport Fire Lt. Dennis Gergely and Milford Battalion Fire Chief Anthony Fabrizi, members of a local heavy metal band, recently released a tribute song they wrote for two Bridgeport firefighters who died in the line of duty nine years ago.
Gergely and Fabrizi, career firefighters, are two of five members of Indestructible Noise Command. Gergely is on vocals and Fabrizi on guitar. Other members include drummer Kyle Shepard, the son of a local firefighter; guitarist Erik Barath and bassist Dave Campo.
The song is called “Beneath the Smoke” and contains lyrics inspired by the loss of the two firefighters. It was released June 13, a few weeks before the nine-year anniversary of their deaths; and had been written five years ago.
“As most of you know, Dennis and Anthony are lifetime firefighters and this song was written after Dennis lost a couple of brothers from his firehouse,” the band said in a Facebook post the day the song was released.
July 24 marked nine years since Bridgeport Fire Lt. Steven Velasquez and Bridgeport Firefighter Michel Baik died battling an intense structure fire in Bridgeport. Gergely was co-workers with the two fallen firefighters.
The song can be viewed on YouTube and the description includes a donation link for those interested in donating to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in honor of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice as Velasquez and Baik did.
“Please assist us in helping them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button,” the band wrote. “The more people that know about NFFF, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.”
Indestructible Noise Command was formed in 1985.
