Sixth Annual FASNY RecruitNY Campaign Planned

The April 21 event is the kick-off for Nassau and Suffolk Counties’ participation in the sixth annual FASNY RecruitNY campaign, designed to help increase volunteer membership.

Nassau County and Suffolk County volunteer firefighters, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), fire officers, public safety and other officials and supporters will clang the bell for new recruits Thursday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center, on Museum Row in Garden City.

This is the kick-off for Nassau and Suffolk Counties’ participation in the sixth annual FASNY RecruitNY campaign, designed to help increase volunteer membership. The event, which area firefighters will be invited to attend in dress uniform, and where it is planned to showcase fire rigs and apparatus from area departments, is a public service outreach to highlight the need for more volunteer firefighters.

During the RecruitNY 2016 Open House Weekend, Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, volunteer fire departments across New York State will open their doors and fire truck bays to local residents as part of the statewide volunteer firefighter recruitment effort. Fire departments will conduct tours of their firehouses and fire apparatus, allow visitors to try on turnout gear, and provide visitor activities throughout the firehouse.

Members will discuss the volunteer requirements and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter, as well as conduct demonstrations, answer questions, and let visitors know how to go about joining their fire department.

As of March 16th, the following Nassau County Departments are signed up: Bellerose Fire Department; Bellmore Fire Dept; East Meadow Fire Department; East Rockaway Fire Department; Floral Park; Glenwood Fire Company; Locust Valley Fire Department; Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department; North Bellmore Fire Department;North Merrick Fire Department; Oceanside Fire Department; and Rockville Centre Fire Department.

And the following Suffolk County Departments are registered: Bohemia Fire Department; Centereach Fire Department; Central Islip Fire Department; Cutchogue Fire Department; Flanders Fire Department; Huntington Fire Department; Huntington Manor Volunteer Fire Department; Mastic Fire Department; Sayville Fire Department; Setauket FD; Sound Beach Fire Department; Terryville Fire Department; Wading River Fire Department; and West Sayville Fire Department.
