The San Antonio, TX, Fire Department has received The American Heart Association’s 2016 Mission: Lifeline Gold EMS Award.
Every second counts when a person is stricken with a heart attack. Mission: Lifeline is a coordinated effort between EMS and hospitals caring for these patients to provide the most expedient and expert medical intervention available. Early recognition and intervention by EMS providers allows them to effectively communicate their findings to the most appropriate receiving hospital. This communication allows the receiving hospital to begin preparations for care prior to arrival of the patient to their facility. The valuable time saved greatly increases the patient’s survivability.
The SAFD has embraced this concept and has provided the highest level of expert care to patients experiencing a cardiac event by following the evidence based guidelines set forth by the American Heart Association. This is the second year in a row that the department has received this commendation. It is further evidence of “Our Family Protecting Your Family.”
