HI City Council Worried About FF Testing

The concern comes after a high number of recruits failed a test and multiple recruits were let go by the Honolulu Fire Department recently.

The Honolulu City Council are concerned about the fire department after a high number of recruits failed a test and multiple recruits were let go by the department.

Bobby Lee, president for the Hawaii Firefighters Association, said the union has filed a grievance, KHON-TV reports.

"When you get 10 out of 12 that flunk, the process should be stop and figure out how come you have a high amount of people failed at first stop? Instead of stopping, they accelerated and didn't take what we believe was the proper time to reassess what happened," Lee said. "It's about trying to help our recruits succeed, not set them up to fail."

But the Honolulu Fire Department defends its testing standards.

"We do understand it is difficult anytime somebody gets let go from the fire department. We do have standards and testing, and it is a difficult process," Capt. Scot Seguirant, a department spokesman, told the TV station.
