A federal grant has been paying the salaries of eight Antonia Fire Protection District firefighters for the past two years. But that ends in March.

Fire district officials told KDSK-TV they will be applying for new grants, but there are no guarantees they will receive them. At least four firefighters staff the apparatus on calls currently. That could drop to two or three if the district can't replace the grant money.

“We just will not be able to maintain what we've done in the past two years," Chief Mike Arnhart told the TV station. "If you drop down to two firefighters per apparatus, one pumps the truck and that only allows one firefighter to make entry into that building.”
