An Ohio fire department won't lose its firefighters afterall.
Fourteen out of the 15 firefighters who had planned to walk out of the fire stations Sunday morning - including North College Hill Fire Chief Brian Fels - rescinded their resignations, WXIX reported.
Fels remains on leave so Police Chief Ryan Schrand was named public safety director so he can oversee both departments.
Firefighters said in a Facebook post that their safety concerns had fallen on deaf ears. Later, they informed residents that talks were underway and they were rescinding their resignations.
In a statement to the media, Mayor Tracie Nichols wrote: "We are a small city and much like a family, sometimes families disagree and have to work towards a solution. The firefighters and myself were able to work together to address and solve most of their concerns. We were able to bring them back home to work, serving our citizens. I am happy our firefighters are willing to return and I welcome them back with open arms.”
