Two Albuquerque, NM, Firefighters Failed Sobriety Tests, Video Shows

One of three charged recently with driving while intoxicated has resigned from the Albuquerque Fire Department.

Two Albuquerque firefighters failed field sobriety tests during recent traffic stops, videos show.

Three off-duty firefighters were arrested recently for driving while intoxicated.

Firefighter Angelo Abeyta was leaving a school when Rio Rancho Police stopped him.

Abeyta's speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot, KRQE reported.

He failed the field sobriety tests and originally refused to take a Breathalyzer. When he did, it as twice the legal .08 limit.

Abeyta, who was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, retired after the incident..

Days later on March 17, Albuquerque Police said a driver turned onto train tracks to avoid a sobriety checkpoint. 

Firefighter, Rane Hanni was slurring his words when to told the officer didn't drink.

He recently and pled guilty to a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was given a deferred sentence and one-year probation.

A third firefighter, Mateo Keyohara also was charged with similar offenses in another incident. Video of his arrest has not been released yet.

Hanni and Keyohara are still on leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
