Dr. Jenaway is no stranger to the emergency services field, or to the discipline of safety, loss prevention and risk management. For over thirty-five years Bill has been an active provider of fire, emergency medical and loss prevention services.
Bill is employed as Executive Vice President of VFIS, the country's leading provider of insurance and risk management services to Fire and EMS agencies. Prior to this he served as Vice President of Risk Control Services for Reliance Insurance Companies and prior to that was Vice President of Loss Control for the CIGNA Property and Casualty Insurance Companies. A leader in the provision of safety to business and industry, he was a Governing Board Member of the Engineering and Safety Service of the American Insurance Association and recently received recognition for 25 years of service as a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. While at both CIGNA and Reliance, Bill was responsible for research initiatives that changed behavioral and technical approaches to reducing loss in business and industry.
Dr. Jenaway holds technical certifications as a Certified Safety Professional, (CSP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Fire Officer (CFO) and is Certified to Level III in Homeland Security (CHS). He holds A.S., B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.
Bill's fire service background is equally impressive, with experience as Fire Chief and President of the King of Prussia (PA) Volunteer Fire Company, Chairman of the Fire & Rescue Services Board in Upper Merion Township (PA), Fire Chief and Fire Marshal in East Bethlehem Township (PA). He has also served as Chairman of the NFPA Committee on Emergency Service Organization Risk Management, Chairman of the NFPA Committee on Providing Emergency Services to the Public, President of the Congressional Fire Services Institute, President of the Pennsylvania Fire Services Institute, and Chairman of the International Assn of Fire Chiefs Risk Management Committee. Bill serves as a Commissioner for the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, and the list goes on.
Dr. Jenaway is also an adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Public Safety and Environmental Protection at Saint Joseph's University, in Philadelphia, where he specializes in the analysis and management of risk as well as California University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School in Legal Studies terrorism program.
He has served as a member of the Presidential/Congressional Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction, known as the "Gilmore Commission" since its inception in 1999. Bill also serves as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Senate Resolution Commission to enhance the fire and emergency medical services in Pennsylvania.
In 2001 Dr. Jenaway was named "Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year" by Fire Chief magazine at the annual conference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
The author of more than 200 articles on fire, safety and management-related topics, Bill has also written six texts on fire and safety discipline and four children's books. He has also testified numerous times before local, state, and federal legislative bodies; and presented over 200 times on safety, emergency service and management issues.
