The Omaha Fire Department began using RescueNet ePCR 6.0 to submit NEMSIS Version 3 data to the State of Nebraska.

MARCH 24, 2015—CHELMSFORD, MASS. — ZOLL® Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of medical devices and related software solutions, today announced that the Omaha Fire Department is actively using RescueNet® ePCR 6.0 to submit NEMSIS Version 3 data to the State of Nebraska. Omaha Fire Department is the first ZOLL customer and one of the first agencies in the country to submit NEMSIS Version 3 data to its state.

NEMSIS Version 3 incorporates new data elements to reflect the growth of the medical community’s knowledge about treating conditions such as stroke, STEMI, trauma, and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. NEMSIS Version 3 is also an important step towards harmonizing EMS data with patient data in the hospital. Currently, only two states, Nebraska and California, are actively collecting NEMSIS Version 3 data. All states are expected to transition to NEMSIS Version 3 in the next 6 to 18 months.

“The partnership between ZOLL and Omaha Fire Department will benefit the citizens of Omaha in numerous ways. Omaha Fire Department will collect our data in a way that allows us to work with researchers to identify trends in patients, patient care, and patient outcomes,” said Bill Bernard, Battalion Chief, Omaha Fire Department. “This will lead to improved patient care for the citizens of Omaha and establish Omaha Fire and ZOLL as leaders in national EMS patient care issues.”

“The strategic partnership between ZOLL and Omaha Fire Department allowed for a safe testing environment with both organizations equally committed to success,” said Alex Moghadam, President of ZOLL Data Management Products. “The alliance paves the way for other EMS agencies to make a successful transition to NEMSIS Version 3. Now all of our customers will be able to meet the new, higher standard of state and national reporting requirements and will be ready to adapt to the future of data connectivity between health care providers.”
