As a St. Paul firefighter, Ramon "Ray" Hain came in contact with a patient's body fluids in 1997. Doctors think he contracted a rare disease that weakened his heart.

Hain, of Roseville, got a heart transplant in 1998 but had to retire in 2000 from the job he loved. In recent months, the 50-year-old Hain's heart began failing.

A Delaware Superior Court judge ruled this morning that Paramedic Michelle Smith was acting as a firefighter when she was killed by a driver while tending to an injured man on the side of a highway late last year, according to The News Journal.

The ruling allowed paraplegic Joseph Taye -- who had been using a stick to work the vehicle's pedals -- to be found guilty of first-degree murder for his role in the Dec. 20, 2008 incident on U.S.

Two firefighters in Mississippi had to be rescued after their fire truck flipped yesterday (Nov. 19) while responding to a call, according to WLOX-TV.

The two Forest County volunteer firefighters were on en route to a car fire at approximately 1 p.m. when the incident occurred.

Fire Coordinator Chip Brown told the news station that the fire truck's driver was rushing to the call when he lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Both firefighters were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --

Six firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries on Thursday morning while battling a fire on Dinah Court near Ravenwood Country Club in Donelson.

Emergency officials said the floor of the home fell through, trapping three firefighters at about 7:30 a.m. Firefighters on the scene rescued their co-workers and they were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center.

One other firefighter was later transported. Two additional firefighters were treated and released from Summit Medical Center.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --A three-alarm fire damaged two row homes and a firefighter suffered minor injures while battling the blaze yesterday morning (Nov. 18), according to The Morning Call.

The firefighter sprained an ankle while inside fighting from inside the structure and is shown being carried out at approximately 7:48 into the video shown on the left.

All of the residents escaped safely.

Every 82 seconds a home structure fire is reported. Every two hours and 38 minutes a person dies as a result of a fire.
