Hello,
It looks like we will have to replace a significant amount of our portable, truck mounted, and base radios to comply with the narrowband requirement in a few years. In addition we would also like to add mobile extenders to the trucks and either raise our station antennas or put a remote antenna on a cell tower. Are there any grants out there specific communications?
Thanks.

Is this to go on Starcom, or otherwise?
If the state review requires you to go onto the statewide "interoperable"
system, you most likely won't see any AFG money. All communications grants are supposed to go through state review.
If all IL is going to require is MABAS compatability, then you are golden.

It also looks like at least part of your area got some of the PSIC money - 3.7 million in conjunction with St clair and a couple of other counties near you. I would look at this money also.

This would not be for STARCOM 21 radios. The county sheriff has adopted the STARCOM system but no (that I know of) Fire Depts. in the county are planning to go to STARCOM. The subcription cost per radio is a big negative factor for us. We do have one STARCOM base unit from MABAS at one of our stations.
I hope some of that IEMA grant money is earmarked for practical radio equipment and not just $2000 dollar per radio STARCOM equipment.

I would contact IEMA and ask if they are signing off on AFG grant applications if you are asking for other than Starcom 21. Good luck!
