Dash mounted cameras

Looking for a good quality dash mounted camera to place on our quint. Does anybody have some names of brands that we could look at. Mainly looking for use during response and scene use.

And does anybody have any experience using them, good and bad.

Have you looked at one of these helmet cams? A neighboring dept uses them and seems to be happy with the results. You can mount it on the dash, or on a helmet then take it inside the fire if you wish. I met a guy who mounted it on his motorcycle and recorded the "The Red Helmet Ride" for the National Fallen Firefighter's Memorial in Emmitsburg last year. He said that he has had good luck with it.

Every single ambulance in the county recently had these installed. I've researched a few times, and it seems like a great benefit. Your only problem, if you want to call it that is:

1. Union guy's will never go for it (Is management a peeping tom?)
2. Management may not like it (I think there are already enough threads about assianine driving practices on the forums!!)

We seriously considered a permenant camera system for recording the response and the scene. Our spec called for a 4 color camera system with onboard DVR. Sadly the system was the first thing cut when our bids came in over budget due to the high cost of an installed third party system. As for a strictly "dash cam" my digital Sony 3 CCD video camera on a $15 portable mount has worked great. Good for making end of year videos. Everyone loves roll in video of fire, to bad all of ours seem to be EMS...

Our specced system was not a driver watchdog system, no data recorded of the speed, braking, etc.
