LODD definition

I posted this under the Line of Duty area but haven't gotten any responses. Hopefully reposting here helps.

Question about the definition of a LODD. I know the Hometown Heroes act extended it to heart attacks and strokes. Does that definition also extend to certain cancers? If so, does anyone know what kinds?

My father has been a 30+ year member of his local FD and was diagnosed with Leukemia in June. After initially looking good for him.. well.. now their not. We are trying to make arrangements but haven't been looking at the Fire Service side of things and I'm wondering if we should.

Any information or advice would be appreciated.

First off, I wish the best for your father. I am a firefighter in Massachusetts and I know some cancers are covered under LODD. I am not sure exactly which ones are covered. My suggestion would be to go through the union president, or one of the e-board members. Anyone on the e-board should have access to IAFF, or State reps. They should be able to answer your questions. I will see if I can find info from Massachusetts regarding the cancer definitions.

He was not a career FF but a 30 year member of his fire company in Maine.

Not sure if it applys or how your dad got it, but Virginia Beach just recently laid to rest MFF William Lee and MFF Alan Barber. Both passed from cancer obtained while employed and were giving a full Line of Duty funeral.

In Ontario, (Canada) - several forms of cancer as recognized as LODD for fulltime firefighters; but that does not (at this point, anyways) extend to vollies.
