I was wondering on which Wildland pack I should get, I just recently got certified as a Wildland Firefighter and wanted to get some things before I go out into the field.
Any suggestions on some good packs?

What ever your budget will allow. I run a Wolfpack set up, but i paid out the *** for it, amazing quality. Packshack has some really good deals, too. I have seen alot of people running the Ture Norths lately. www.Firecache.com Has a really cool Promo progam, worth looking into.

Engine pack or crew pack? I've really liked Eagle Gear's stuff, they ride very well. My biggest suggestion is to keep it simple - there's packs with so many straps and buckles that they're a mess to put on, adjust, more stuff to break, etc... a good pack shouldn't seem busy or confusing when you first start messing with it.

The bigger the pack, the more you carry, the heaver it is. Packs are personal preference like fords, chevy, dodge, stihl, hasqvarna. :)

Chevy and Ford may be preference, but Stihl and Husqvarna? One of those is definitely better, and you know which one it is.

Most everyone around here runs Nimrod packs. They are my personal preferance. I like how they ride on my 6'2" lanky frame. Eagle is another common set of line gear. It seems that you either like or hate either. I hate Eagle and love Nimrod.
Chevy or Ford: GOV should jump to Toyota.
Stihl or Huskie: Stihl should be the standard. Seems the exception around here!

If im out on a strike team on like a type 3 or higher i go with more but if your just fighting fires around your district the true north spider gear is great. It holds just enough and isnt too heavy

Packs are everyone's own personal preference, but it kind of depends on a lot of variables. Where are you fighting fire (desert, mountains), engine or crew? What type of engine? type of crew?

Like hollohead said....
Buy a pack that will suit your needs. I personally just use the web gear and not a full pack because I am only wearing it on small brush fires around our district or control burns with the forestry. It holds everything I need: maps, pen/pencil, gloves, misc. info (18 watchout sit., 10 standard FF orders, etc...), some snacks and water, and my fire shelter. Now if I get the chance to head out west and fight some "real" wildfires, I will of course get a full pack, but why spend the extra money if you don't have too?
