Anyone here been through Vancouver's hiring process? How long was it from app due dates to academy?

Also, part of their process lists "Non-Disabling Personality Traits and Behavior Assessment". Is this a psych interview?

Thanks for any info.

What do you think the cutoff score will be for an interview?

The job announcement mentioned the written is through PublicSafetyTesting.com. Anyone have any experience with this testing service?
Also any insight as to testing procedure or format? The website has been down.

The website is working for me: http://www.publicsafetytesting.com/
Although it's too late now, the last test was the 27th and apps were due the 31st.

It's a fairly easy test, just brush up on your math. And I highly suggest the 20.00 practice test, it helped me a lot.

Fatkid, I don't know. Longview cut their's off at 75%.

I believe 75% was passing, but do you think they actually interview everyone that's above 75%? That's a pretty low score. I've heard many departments have an interview cutoff score of 92% to 94%. That has me nervous because I got 93.99.

The waiting part kills me!

My understanding is that this version of the Public Safety Test isn't having a ton of 100% scores as they have in teh past. In the 80 or so that was there when I tested mine was the highest at 97.7%. I wouldn't worry about it at all. :)

From speaking with someone from the HR department I understood they were going to take the top 100 scores submitted. As of March 30th there were only around 300 applicants, so I would guess your 94% is plenty to move forward. However, it was unclear to me what "moving on" really meant. I got the impression they were going to have their own written and agility test then interviews.

Does anyone know the entire process?

Thanks

JVallstar, did you ask how many they were hiring overall?

I heard about this on the 28th, I was mad that I didn't hear about it sooner. Best of luck for everyone that is going through it.

The person I spoke to didn't know. The regular HR contact will be coming back from vacation soon, I'll let you know what I hear.

OK, this is what I have after talking with the recruiter: they will have 9 vacancies. They plan on hiring in October of 09. They are taking the top 100 scores from Public Safety Testing and will send them through a physical agility test. From there they will have interviews then background checks. They are not sure what mix of firefighters/paramedics they will be hiring or if all 9 vacancies will be filled.

These are all preliminary numbers and dates. The HR contact will send out an email hopefully this week with more finalized numbers/schedules etc. I do NOT work for Vancouver and I am just reporting what I heard.

Hopefully this helps. If anybody wants to meet up to train for the physical test, I'm in Portland and found some pretty mean stairs, message me. Good Luck

So Portland removed its hiring freeze and started hiring again. The word around the portland department is it was a mistake to put off hiring and now they will be playing catch up to fill attrition positions. Obviously Vancouver is its own city with in a different state but there have to be some economic similarities to portland...

Has anyone heard any estimates as to when Vancouver may start hiring again? Does anyone have any insight on the nature of the deficit in budget and when or why Vancouver may start its hiring process again?

Thanks in advance

SO the ranked list is out. Has anyone heard on when they will be scheduling interviews? The academy is coming up quick...
