I am starting this forum for all who will be involved in the Newport News fire hiring process. My test is on the 29th.

I just applied online. I am going to call tomorrow morning to schedule my test date.

I took the test last time, but did not follow up on it at all. I was unsure I wanted to become an EMT-I at the time, but now I really would like to (I was in a EMT-B course at the time and didn't know if I really enjoyed EMS yet, now I know I do).

Good luck to everyone.

Good luck to you as well i will work my *** off this is something i have been looking forward to for a long time. I only got a few months left in the military. How was the test last time i knew a few people who took it and they said it was really easy.

It's a very basic test. Reading comprehension, and math. I'm not going to say it was easy... but, it's very straight forward.

Also, the test is something like 20 years old. They've been using it forever for some reason. The captain who does the hiring process stuff said he took the exact same test when he was hired something like 18 years ago.

im thinking about taking a trip there to test..
Anyone have any idea how many they plan to hire? If they give preference for anything(emt, veteran, college credits, etc.)?

also, it seems like quite a few things to get through and would require quite a few trips there, anyone know if they work with out-of-staters and how many trips may be required?

thanks
