Its not that bad. We are staffed 24/7/365 and staffing is a shift supervisor and 2 technicians. We mainly deal with hazmat related incidents and things like electrical shorts/smoke/fire in equipment on the manufacturing floor. It is not nearly as glamerous as a municipal job as we have no brand new big flashy fire trucks and do not have a station or anything like that. But the pay and benifits are great (100% college tuition upto a certain amount $6000 or $7000 a year I belive) plus medical, 401k, etc... It is different then working in a municipal fire department as not only are you concerned with employees/visitors life safety but also ensureing the plant has the least impact etc... We work shift work 3 on 4 off 4 on 3 off 12hr shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a). If you are serious about it drop me an e-mail to my username @gmail.com and ask whatever questions you may have.
