Chicago Fire Department - Paramedic Questions?

Hello, I am very interested in becoming a Paramedic for the Chicago Fire Department, but can't seem to find any information both on this site or the web about the process, etc. on becoming one.

Hoping somebody can help me out! Also, heard something about the Crossover from Paramedic to Firefighter through CFD, curious about that as well.

go to cfdmedics.com you'll find all the info there. They start a list every 2-3 years, the current list I think is almost 3 years old.

same here!!! great thread to start. i am in paramedic school currently with malcolm x. we do all our clinical stuff with the cfd. our instructors are all current or retired cfd medics. they say the list opens up every two years, but only for a short period of time, like a week. the next list is suppose to open up in fall of 2010. look on cfdmedics.com, the post a lot of stuff on there too. pretty much just hound chicago human resources for an exact date. i am sitting on the fire list also at number 31XX, hoping i hear something.

Sounds good csBlaZe, definitely stay in contact. I am not a Medic yet. I am currently working towards my EMT Certification through Century College here in the Cities (St. Paul, MN). I am only 17 and a Senior in High School, but have a very big dream and goal to get on CFD.

Awesome, you can totally help me out then! I am currently working towards my EMT Certification while being a Senior in high School, so got plenty of time to work this out and get all the info I can. I was looking into Malcom X for my Medic as well, can I go there for Medic and Medic only? Don't have to take any generals or anything do I?
Also, generally speaking, is it fairly easy to get hired by CFD as a Medic fresh out of Medic School? Compared with trying to get on fire which can take years...
Any lastly, wondering if you could help me out with the whole Paramedic Crossover thing I hear so much about, that's what I plan on doing.
