When I had my dalmatian, she was named "W.S. Darley" (we called her Darley). Around here we have had dalmatians named Seagraves, Pierce, Ember and Ahrens-Fox.

My cousin used to have a dalmation that he couldn't figure out what to name. After it made several messes around the house, he named it Osha, since Osha always seems to make things worse.

Dalmatian 290 is "Jake" (New England slang for a firefighter).

Dalmatian 190 is "Oscar"...not fire related at all, but has a personality like Oscar Madison. All I need is for him to start smoking cigars while playing poker...

Chief's Dal is Mattydale...as in the crosslay.

We try to name our dogs after we know something about their personalities or their attributes. Right now we have a Great Dane mix named Galloway (Celtic for "small horse") and a German Shepard named Schultz (German for "protector")

We have 2 Dals, brother and sister. The Males AKC name is Rex My Captain, Rex for short. Rex was my wifes idea and Captain was my rank at the time we got the dogs. The females AKC name is Sweet Smokin' Cinders. Cinders for short. She had this "sweet" look on her face when we picked her out of the litter. The Smokin' Cinders comes from the parents. Smokin' Ashes was Dad and Burning Cinders was Mom. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

One lafd fire stations was found an abonaded dog and named it Bruin, Mainly due to the fact that they were first due to the campus of UCLA, We named our's after one of the mascots on Emergency Henry, Except our dog is not lazy!, The two LAFD houses have a rivalry they both named there dogs Trojan and Bruin they are both first due to those schools, If I ever get a pet of my own I will name him either Gage or Desoto

The name, Zada, is derived from the city of Zadar. My dalmation is named Zadria.
Zadar is an ancestral home. It is on the Croatian Adriatic seacoast in the central DALMATIA region.

My female dal is named Bandit(I didn't name her!)because she has a patch covering one eye...kinda cool...
and my male dal is named D'Artagnan after one of the musketeers...
"D" had 2 spots on his nose that form a little heart(AWWWW, how cute...)so I thought the name would be fitting since D'Artagnan loved but one woman his whole life...

Stay safe!

After trying to name my dalmation after something in the fire service that wasn't being used around the area already (e.g. Ashes, Arson, Smokey) I decided on Lukas after the extrication device.

Keefers is our dog. Our FD is on a Indian Reservation and Keefers is a fighting dog. He has a big black eye now but you should see the other dog. He comes and goes when he pleases.

My dog’s name is not firehouse related, it’s Sterling. However, a couple good firehouse dog names that I have yet to see would be Amkus, or Spanner. When I read one of you named your pup OSHA I fell out of my chair… Great name!

Our station had a black lab named Pyro. She was found during a vacant building fire about 5 years ago by our Engine Company performing a search. She recently passed away while "on duty". The guys are going to miss her sitting in the jumpseat at 3 o'clock in the morning when the in-house alarm goes off...she used to beat us to the engine ready to go 'for a ride'... http://www.firehouse.com/forums/frown.gif

Hey Sparkie911~

Actually your dog "Sterling" does have a fire service related name. Sterling was a manufacturer of FD outdoor general alarm rotary electrical SIRENS - the kind used to summon firefighters to the station for an alarm. Long before the modern pager hit the scene.

Does Sterling wind up and sing along when he/she hears another siren?

We named our German Shepard "Askum". For when somebody asks us "Whats your dogs name"
Our reply "Askum". Of course they then bend over and ask the dog "What's your name". I get a kick out of it every time.

Have a pup named Collision, because I found him wandering around at an MVA. Incidentally, everytime he hears a siren, he chases it, and everytime, he hits something b/c he is trying so hard to catch up. Kind of funny....

Whatever it is, I didn't do it, and I don't know anything about a fire. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Stay safe, boys and girls. It's for keeps out there.

Got a new German Shepherd pup and took him to the station to show hom off. We had a full size cutout of Smokey Bear and at first sight that pup attacked it. (Good instincts I guess)

Needless to say he was then named Smokey.

Glad he got a good name because other than that that dog was dumber than a box of rocks.

My dad had a dog named Smokey. Here's a few others I thought sounded appropriate: Flame, Flash, Badge, Hero, Pyro, Nomex, Scorch, Charcoal, Flash, Singe, Torch...

Just DON'T name them "Fire." It wouldn't look good if the dog was lost and you had a bunch of firefighters running around yelling "Fire!" ha ha

Gaelic. Celtic applies to French and some Nordic languages.

Our dog, Booboo, was originaly named Baby, but he's almost fourteen and three legged, so we changed it.
How many stations out there actually have dogs? Our chief says we can't have one because it's a federal building. But the Coast Guard has one!

Had a mate from my old military dog unit that left and joined the RAVC (Royal Army Veterinary Corp) as a bomb dog handler. This was in the 80's when the "Troubles" were still going on in Ireland.

Got a letter from him about 12 months later saying to the effect of...

"Hi, currently in Ireland, 1/2 way through my tour, on my second dog now."

"Both dogs called FLASH."

We always knew Ernie was twisted, but calling a bomb dog FLASH ????????
