Some new ideas

I work full time as an Engineer/Paramedic, but on my off days I work at a Salvage yard. This side job lets me get tons of knowledge on how cars are put together, and how they can come apart easier.

One thing that I have noticed, is the Chevy uses a pin set up to hold their door hings on. These pins (one in each hing) are easily driven out with a hammer and a long bar, there by seperating the two halves of the hing. This got me to thinking about what an air chissel would do to them. Just think, all you would need to do is push the fender back far enough to expose the hings, then drive the pins out, easy as that.

Another Item that I have found is a wire cutter that is used by electricians for cutting large guage cable. I've heard it called a Banana cutter before, but not sure of the real name. The cutting head looks like the head of a Hurst cutter, with over lapping "C" shaped blades. We are using one on our engine, and everyone seems to like it. It will slice right through battery cables, and the wire loom from the vehicle to the door. I know SNAP-ON carries them, and I will get a Part# if anyone is interested.

Anyway, give me some feedback on these ideas.

The cutter is an electricians cable cutter. Most of the big names in handtools make them. You should be able to pick them up at Home Depot for a few dollars less than Snap-on.

We have been using the electrical cutters for a few years now. They work great on the wire harness you may run into, battery cables (only if necessary of course, we would rather disconnect), etc. They also have made easy work of wiring harnesses in tractor trailers, etc. which really can be a problem.
