Cribbing

Gien this is a specialized rescue forum, how much cribbing do you think is adequate to efficiently carry? What lengths & sizes do you carry? Do you store any?

We carry (56) 4x4, (25) 6x6, (20) 2x4, (18) 4x6 wedges, 2(0) 4x4 wedges on the rescue truck. The collapse truck carries somewhere in the neighborhood of (20) 4x4, (20) 6x6 and (20) 4x4 as well as a large amount of wedges in both sizes. This truck works as a support truck with the rescue, so they both go out on the same runs if needed.

All cribbing is softwood except for the 2x4. It is all 24" long and wedges are all 18". The wood is cut and the edges are routered to reduce splintering. Ends are painted for easy ID. Yellow= 4x4, red= 6x6, green= 2x4, blue= 4x4 wedges, white= 4x6 wedges. Webbing (1" old tubular web) is affixed to the end in a 10-12" loop with one screw into the center of the end to hold it.

In our shed, under the collapse shoring rack we keep extra milk crates of all sizes. There are about 3 crates of each size except 2x4. The crates work well, as we have a hand truck on the truck to haul them around with.

Rescue carries 8 step chocks as well and also has (4) 4x4x6' post cribbing and (4) 4x4x4' post cribbing used with ratchet belts for overturns.

There is also a vast amount of shoring materials stored on both the collapse truck and in the shed. We can make as much cribbing as needed on the scene if we have to.
