How does one get involved in a US Search and Rescue Team?
I live in Connecticut and want to know where the closest one is located?

Thank you

If you are Interested in SAR Try www.nasar.org, (http://www.nasar.org,) Decide what Type you are Interested in, Canine,Collapse,Technical ect. MOST SAR Teams in the U.S. ARE Volunteer or F.D. Related so Look into those also. N.A.S.A.R. has an Index of SAR Teams but it has not been updated in quite a while so there may be new ones not Listed within the Last Year.

I'm guessing you're looking for info on Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search & Rescue teams.

For New England, that would be MA-TF-1 out of Beverly, MA http://www.fema.gov/r-n-r/matf1.htm

I am a member of MATF-1. I believe you can get a hold of the TF leader through the website. There is a waiting list to get on the rescue side. They will accept you depending on what your background is.Most guys have gone to tech. rescue school in VA Beach, Barnstable County, or the New Hampshire Fire Academy.I am not positive where New Britain is but we have guys from East Hartford,Springfield and Waterbury CT.E-Mail me directly if you want any other info.
