What are all of you doing to come into compliance with 1670. Are you structuring department training levels in accordance? Do you document such? Are your training facilities adopting courses of study yo conform?

Hey dude, first of all I'm from Washington County MD, and I think just about everybody here is doing the same basic thing; Stations that have a Rescue Squad are as a minimum requireing the Univ. of MD rescue tech. class as a minimum, or prerequisite to do squad work. Now this does not include any other training requirements (FF I/II, EMT, etc.). Those of us that are rescue "heads" so to speak usually push the issue until our respective departments choose to build upon that training. The Rescue Tech. class that the state teaches just barely meets the requirements. But it does none the less. The rest of us that do squad work and heavy rescue work frequently recognize that this is just enough training to get somebody in trouble. My volunteer dept. conducts training every monday. And we do in fact train agressively with our members. Unfortunately, it is tough to force "volunteers" to come to training, and you are left with the wrong people doing the wrong things on incidents. My career dept. has a drill on each shift, however due to cuts in staffing, and the inability to force people to go take training while off the clock, you are again left with people who just barely meet the bare minimums. We do try to meet the NFPA standards as best we can.

Well here's from a dept. that doesn't. My individual company does train on it's own, but there has not been dept. wide resq training in the past 3 yrs I've been here. We need to go out and get the formalized training on our own.

No, but you can purchase it online at IFSTA or NFPA's websites.

Resc10,
I was hoping I would find someone from the same neck of the woods that I am. As you know we will soon be placing a Rescue Squad in service. I have been asking around the county for copies of Rescue Squad SOP's but so far nobody has been able to help us out or does want to! I was told by one of your members that you do have an SOP in place, and he told me he would get us a copy but we never received one. How about helping your Brothers in the North End out.
If you have a chance could you fax me a copy of your SOP, I would greatly appreciate it. My fax number is 301-745-3017.

Question: What kind of Specialized training do you all do and do you know of any contacts in our area for this type of training? We have about 80% of our ACTIVE Firefighters trained to the Rescue Tech. level at least, and some are trained to the Specialist Level, but as you know Rescue Squads just aren't for Vehicle Extrication and that's mostly what MFRI covers. If you could talk to your Training Officer or if you know any instructors that would be willing to help us out let me know. It would be great if we could get the County to sponsor a Specialized Rescue Course for all the Squads in the County, or even if a few of the Squads could get togather for a joint training session.

Thanks for your time!

Opps, I tried to modify my first message, I guess that didn't work! The second one is what I was trying to say.
