I've heard NJ is putting together a USAR team. Does anyone know where to get info?
New Jersey operates what is now called something like the New Jersey Technical Rescue Team. It is not a FEMA based team, but operates with a few similarities as it. It is led by Batt Chief Richard Laird, I believe he is from Trenton FD. Funds were just cleared through the NJ legislature. I also believe that the state police have their hands in on it too. The team is broken into north, central and south divisions so that a smaller event can be held to the local team. Activation is done via phone chain currently and each county had a rescue manager (or is supposed to) to orchestrate such activations and maintain inventory of resources. They have held several Rescue Systems I basic training classes on the grounds of the old Ciba Geigy complex and also drill at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Lakehurst is the central meeting point for activations as well. Thats as much as I can recall at the moment..they have been deployed to the building collapse in Trenton a while ago, Bound Brook during the floods and Newark for the plane crash recently.
