Recent Aerial Purchases

Anyone purchased an aerial recently (most interested in sticks)and would care to provide basic information such as aerial length and quint or straight ladder truck, along with a purchase price? Beginning some preliminary budget planning.

Our most recent purchase was last year,a HME/Ferrera 75'rm quint with 500 gals. of water.Cost was about 370000.A neighboring dept. just ordered a Sutphen 100'mm aerial tower with 1500gpm and 300 gals. of water for 645000.Hope this helps.Also, there is a magazine called Fire Apparatus produced by Firetec that shows recently delivered units that show the prices of most.They should have a Firetec link on here somewhere!

We just ordered one Sutphen 100' platform with 1500 GPM pump for about $ 627,000.00.
We also bought a stock Sutphen 100' platform for $ 671,000.00

We just purchased 2 61' Pierce Quints with 61' ladders, 500 gallons, 2250 gpm pumps. They've been in service about 6 months.

We also have a 100' Pierce Aerial platform on the assembly line. Going to have the big 4 man platform on it.

This past December we took delivery of a Pierce 105' straight stick rear mount. Price was about 600,000. Pre-piped waterway with upper and lower controls for the pipe. We love it. We discussed quint and decided it wasn't for us.

If you get a rig with an LDH hosebed, spec it so that it is not "chute style."

Just got back from the factory two (2) days ago on ours. 95' RM platform quint, 2000 GPM Hale QMAX single stage pump, 300 GWT, 30 Class A w/Foam Pro 2001 Class A foam system, PTO generator, 2-2" crosslays, 1 front trash line, 2-1000 GPM monitors in platfrom, 2 (1 each side) 1000 GPM monitors stagger mounted on body, 1000' of 5", pull out trays, pull out drawers for TIC and CO monitors, etc. Price about $659,000.00. Be safe.

We just put a Seagrave 100' straight stick quint into service. It's a 5 man tilt cab with the heavy duty ladder, 2000 gpm Waterous pump, 300 gallon tank, 7.5 KW Onan quiet-run generator. It carries 1000' of 5" supply line and has 4 preconnected hand lines. Delivery price was about $515,000

We got a new 1999 Pierce Dash series truck with a Snozzle. It is a mid-mount aerial device, capable of anything, especially piercing through windows and car roofs. It has an adjustable nozzle, and is capable of flowing water through the piercing tip into a fog-like patter for large car fires. Regular and infared cameras can be mounted on the end and it comes with a great remote control. The mid-mount allows for a full hose bed, a mechanized ladder rack, and more. July of '97 we placed our first Quint into service. A 75' Smeal on a Freightliner Fl 112 chassis. What a great truck! Cummins M11 400 HP engine, Allison 4060P transmission, 500 gal tank, 2000 Waterous single stage pump, 1000 Gal/Min flow out the tip,tip intercom, remote control of tip nozzle, creeper controls, 4 outriggers. Pretty much the works!

Smeal did a great job of building the truck to our spec's, they came out with the ergonical hose bed 6 months after ours was in service. We wish we had that, reloading hose is a pain. We should have spent more time on the compartments and had the racks and holders for tools and stuff, it could have been better thought out.

I would suggest single source truck ordering,the factory is responsible for everything. We had a driveline retarder added after Smeal completed the truck, wrong grease or u joints, threw the driveline out after 1400 miles. Alot of finger pointing to whose fault, Good thing for insurance!
