Who here has a read a book by Robert. J Whelan called the Ecology of Fire?<br />If so what did you think of it?<br />I am starting to read it for a class I am taking

Have not read the book but if you are looking at ecological effects of fire a glance at some Australian publications may be worth while. Many Australian plants require the acidity of smoke and heat of a bushfire to germinate. They now use a chemical preparation to germinate rare Australian orchids using the knowledge they have learned. The burning off cycle is important. Regular burn offs ie every 5 years favour some species rather than others. Natures original random burn off regime produces a different result and the changes in habitation make it hard to replicate.
