I am a photographer and a firefighter. Do any firefighters carry a camera in their gear?

Are you really a firefighter?.. How many of those "15" house fires did you enter??

We don't carry cameras in our gear, but we do carry disposable cameras in our units with the expectation that you can get a first arriving shot and maybe some others for PR and more incident critiques.

Several members of our department carry inexpensive or disposable cameras in the inside of their turnout gear. Our first priority is fighting the fire, etc. HOWEVER, on many occasions the opportunity presents itself where some very interesting and educational photos have been taken inside a structure, at the scene of an auto accident, or at the scene of an unusual rescue. It is certainly possible to perform your duty, AND get a good picture at the same time.

WHATS THE DEAL HERE???? THIS GUY JUST WANTS TO KNOW IF ANYONE CARRIES A CAMERA....AND HE IS BEING HUNG OUT TO DRY...FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO SPOUT OFF ABOUT. OH...AND I TOOK A CAMERA (THE CHEAP **** KIND) INTO THE FLASHOVER CAN AT INDY LAST YEAR...TEMPS WERE APPROX : 1300 @ CEILING LEVEL...AND THE PICTURES CAME OUT, SO THAT ARGUMENT DOESNT FLY, NEXT TRY?

I agree with e33, the question was a simple one. Do you carry a camera? Not do you ignore your duties as a firefighter and take pictures.

I have just started carrying an
ADVANTIX camera with me. A Fire Investigator might think that some of the pictures taken while a F/F is standing in staging might prove useful during the investigation. As long as it is not interferring with your suppression activities go for it.
