To whom it may concern:
Approximately ten years ago I personally tested a similar mask down here in Florida. I failed terribly. I suffered from smoke inhalation, carbon monoxide poisoning, and a heavy coat of soot in my mouth and throat. I feel as a respected magazine in the fire fighting community you should be obligated to insure claims made are true. These so called masks and filters are usually nothing but mineral oil coated styrene beads and do not filter out toxic gases. I feel it is imperative that we check these wild claims made by so called protection companies.

Thank you

As CEO of Xcaper Industries I feel obligated to correct the misstatements made in the previous post. With all due respect to Chief Cialella, the Xcaper Smoke mask and Whiffs Smoke Filter did not exist until 1999 when it was first introduced. Since that time it has been used successfully by thousands of professional and volunteer firefighters for lung protection while fighting wildland fires and performing structural overhaul. Additionally, firefighters across America continue to re-order our product. Due to the recent epidemic of wildland fires in Florida, Georgia, Nevada and California we have been shipping record numbers of filters to firefighters in the field.

Also, the same technology is used by corporate America to protect their employees in the case of fire or emergency evacuation. Included in our customer base are AIG, Lehman Brothers, Pfizer and Visiting Nurses all of which performed live fire tests prior to deployment of the filter.

We are currently testing the Xcaper filter against EN403 which is the European standard for smoke hoods. Based on preliminary tests results we are certain that we will meet or exceed the requirements of this standard.
