The story about the carnage on I-76 in Sedgewick County was a good story but it did not give credit where credit was due. The single paramedic did a great job as incident commander but I believe the true heroes of this story are the members of the first arriving fire department. The responders where the initial response to this terrible accident. They knew the severity of the incident long before any other agency arrived. This department then requested the additional resources, which included ALS from both counties. This department was also responsible for completing all of the extrication, 3/4 of the patient care and packaging on scene and transport to trauma and nontrauma centers per on scene ALS command. The Crook Fire Department deserves the credit along with Howard McCormick for successfully handling this terrible tragedy.
